Blog Archive MBA Career Advice Your Resume is a Map

Blog Archive MBA Career Advice Your Resume is a Map In this weekly series, our friends at MBA Career Coaches will be dispensing invaluable advice to help you actively manage your career. Topics include building your network, learning from mistakes and setbacks, perfecting your written communication, and mastering even the toughest interviews. For more information or to sign up for a free career consultation, visit  www.mbacareercoaches.com. As we have noted in a past post that your resume is a map. So, we ask, what are the qualities of a good map? You probably have not given it much thought, because most maps are designed to be so easy to use that you do not need to give it any thought! But that is our point â€"just like you don’t want to fumble with the format of a map, you don’t want anyone getting tripped up by the format of your resume. Both should be easy to use and thus the first rule of map/resume creation is… consistency of format. Indeed, a map is a kind of formula, with countless visual cues reinforcing it. For example, countries are listed in larger type and cities are listed in smaller type; scale is set and maintained; a star might denote a capital city, whereas a large dot might denote a large non-capital city and a small dot might denote a smaller non-capital city. Of course, there may be some differentiation from map to map, depending on what the map is designed to convey. However, some general rules apply to virtually all purely geographical maps, because otherwise the map itself would become useless. Imagine if the proportions shifted from country to country or different fonts and font sizes were used from city to city. Your map wouldn’t help anyone find their way or digest the desired information. So, when you construct your resume, make sure that you develop and maintain a consistent format: Choose a specific font size and type for each kind of information and apply it consistently: Headings, company names, job titles, and bullets should all have their own consistent style Use consistent spacing from section to section Put similar information in the same place throughout â€" cities and dates, for example, might be aligned to the right margin Bullets are indented similarly across job entries Margins are maintained throughout We could go on and on. There are lots of decisions to be made, large and small. As you make these decisions though, just ensure that you maintain the integrity of your format and you should be well on your way to creating a usable map for your employer.   Your employer will read your map and quickly and easily understand the path you have taken and you will have thus fulfilled your objective. An Introduction to Sicilian The Language of Sicily

What is Sicilian? The real question is what isnt Sicilian? Sicilian is neither a dialect nor an accent. It’s not derived from Italian. It’s not spoken only  in Sicily. Sicilian (u sicilianu) in Sicilian and  siciliana  in Italian) is the oldest of the  Romance languages  derived from Latin, and it’s spoken  in Sicily and in parts of southern Italy  such as  Reggio di Calabria  and  southern Puglia. It’s derived from  Latin, with  Greek,  Arabic,  French, Provenà §al,  German, Catalan and  Spanish  influences. Sicilian is currently spoken by most of the 5,000,000 inhabitants of Sicily, plus another 2,000,000 Sicilians around the world. With the predominance of Italian in Italian schools and the media, Sicilian is no longer the first language of many Sicilians. In fact, in urban centers in particular, its more common to hear standard Italian spoken rather than Sicilian, especially among the younger generation. Sicilian as Art? But what most people don’t know is that Sicilian developed as a form of art many years before what we currently define as â€Å"Italian†! In fact, even  Dante, father of Italian culture and dialect, referred to Sicilian poets and writers from the â€Å"Sicilian School† as pioneers in literary works and production written in vernacular Italian. The sicilian spelling of words is, like Italian, essentially phonetic. The spoken language is riddled with words of Arabic origin:  tabutu  (coffin) from Arabic  tabut. And in place names: Marsala, the Sicilian port, is from Allahs port,  mars  port   ala, from Allah. We can divide Sicilian dialect variations into three main areas: Western Sicilian  - From the Palermo areas to Trapani and AgrigentoCentral Sicilian  - Through the Enna’s zonesEastern Sicilian  - Divided in Syracuse and Messina Nowadays, Sicilian is the principle way to communicate within the family  (with a capital F). Its  used as a convivial language and as a homey bond with those who live distantly. What’s Siculish? Did you know that Sicilian dialect spoken by Italian immigrants living in the USA is called â€Å"Siculish†? The Sicilian novelist Giovanni Vergas surname means twig† or â€Å"branch in Spanish. The Italian word is  virga. How Does it Sound? But let’s cut to the chase, how does this ancient language sound? Most of the words aren’t too far from the Italian language, but  how  they pronounce them changes the entire game. B  - a normal â€Å"b,† heard several times in â€Å"babbo, bosco, bambole†¦,† turns into a -V. So la botte ( the barrel) sounds  Ã¢â‚¬Ëœa vuttila barca ( the boat)  Ã¢â‚¬Ëœa varcail broccolo ( broccoli) becomes  u’ vrà ²cculu Double L  - Words like â€Å"bello† e â€Å"cavallo† become  beddu and cavaddu. G  - between vowels falls and leaves only a slight trace: gatto sounds like  attà ¹gettare (to throw) sounds like  ittari Not all the sounds are squeezed though. There are cases that where letters strengthen and are redoubled in their sound. â€Å"gi† becomes  valiggia  ( suitcase), and the Sicilian jacket,  a giacca, has to be read as  aggiacca. Whether you’re a foreigner or an Italian, Sicilian is a complicated language that you can  only hope to understand. We could spend hours listening to this wonderful and melodious language that hides  a magic world dating back almost a thousand years  inside its devious words.

I Am An Introvert, Mentally, Intellectually Reactive, And...

Within society people tend to believe in everything they see unfortunately most of it isn’t always true. Especially on social media rather it’s news facts or personality tests there’s a sense of validity and reliability although rather they have one or the other depends on the information given. An example would be a watch that is 50 mins fast it would be considered reliable but not valid. After spending about 45 minutes to an hour completing my personality test my results showed I am an introvert, able to agree, conscientious, neurotic, and low on open to experience. This test showed more details within each category than I was expecting it even had an explanation behind each little factor which I thought was neat. Even though I’m an introvert I would assume I am pertained as friendly most people I meet tend to think I am but apparently according to the results my friendliness level is low. My test provided me with characteristics of being reserved, helpful, intelligent, emotionally reactive, and not a big imagination. At a certain point, it talked about me being full of myself even though in the section of conscientious I have problems with appreciating myself. I also think my strongest is dutifulness considering that would be my highest and it’s a positive factor as well. Then for my weakest would be my anxiety considering it is a negative aspect and i s high compared to other characteristics. Accounting Theory for Mexico Necessitates- myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about theAccounting Theory for Mexico Necessitates Development. Answer: Introduction It is the companys duty to gather maximum revenues but without affecting its nearby areas, thereby prioritizing enhanced safety of the people. Thus, without disregarding the safety of the surrounding, companies cannot thrive in the long run. Moreover, in relation to BP Plc, the Gulf of Mexico necessitates development on a larger scale because it not only offers employment opportunities to five important states of U.S. but also acts as a home for innumerable aquatic species. After taking into account the oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, it was found that the entire area was badly affected including several aquatic species. This was because of the irresponsible attitude of BP that raised many questions regarding the ineffective accounting ability on its part (Juhasz, 2011). The outcome of the spill necessitated massive compensation programs from the companys part and thus, it spent more than $37.2 billion in relation to such programs. Managerial Analysis The doctrine of corporate social responsibility is the fundamental duty that must be sincerely implemented by the companies in their working. Nonetheless, there have been many cases of failure to carry out their duties about social responsibility where the companies disappoint to demonstrate or to deliver and thereby create a big damage to the environment and creating problem to the mankind in the society (Slaper Hall, 2011). Corporate sustainability is a major concern in the present situation and it is the prime responsibility to take care of the earth and environment as it survives on the resources from the earth (Lahav, 2014). The recent case of BP oil spill is one such evident example where it has huge impact on the environment and society at large is a clear reminder for the failure on part of the company and the regulators to tighten the rules and regulations. Overview 4.9 million barrels of crude oil were leaked into the Gulf of Mexico, and this disaster was known as the BP Oil Spill or the Deepwater Horizon. Oil slicks and tar balls were the two major consequences which were faced by the disaster. Real Estate prices, Tourism and also the Fishing industry suffered a huge setback due to this oil spill. All this caused a business setback with many companies to be temporarily closed. This spill caused the oil price to grow instantly for a short interval followed by a massive. Ason 21 May 2010, the oil prices dropped massively to $68.03 compared to $86.19 on 3 May 2010. BP took the responsibility of restoring the area of the gulf, its surrounding ecosystem, and also the economy after the disaster took place. Restoration, cleanup and the compensation deals cost BP millions which included renovation of the ecosystem. As per the reports of the Sustainability 2010 it was found that Bp had to spent massive amount of $37.5 million only on compensation deals (Broder Krauss, 2011). Study The research report highlights the points which depict the loss of economic capital and the financial conditions of the company after the oil spill disaster (Adam, 2010). However the most important discussion would be of BP after that the environment will be discussed in which BP operates. It is also important to know about the companies which were directly affected by the oil spill. The financial loss or gain will also need to be ascertained; also a study needs to be made about the impact on the competitors, debtors, suppliers, etc along with the financial losses in terms of the damage, cleaning expenses, litigations on various issues, etc (Khatchadourian, 2011). Basically this study aims at finding out the financial impact that BP will have to suffer as because of the oil spill. Part of regulators It is the duty of the regulators to see that the people have faith in the company which can be assured by providing them with profits. The regulators should have a ready plan in the case of an emergency so as to create a balance. Also they need to maintain a balance while ascertaining the competitive interest. Competitive interest would include cheaper energy, energy security, etc. But in the case of BP it was seen that the regulators failed miserably which result in such losses and consequences. The biggest disaster in the US that is talked about is that of oil spill (Adam, 2010). The main reason ascertained is due to the irregular framework. The study revealed that there were numerous flaws in the regulatory system. Both the federal and the environmental regulations proved to be a failure. It was very clear that there was inefficient functioning of the management (Mason, 2010). The need of the public interest was also not take care of. Had there been control on the regulations of t he Government the oil spill would not had taken place. The regulatory authority did not have any back up plans or any reserve with them which could have helped BP to regain the position once again in the market. It is the responsibility of the regulators only to deal with the adverse situations however the failure of the regulators was the major problem in the case of oil spill (Dittrick, 2010). Implications of BP Market capitalization of BP was recorded as $186.20 billion whereas the share price of BP was recorded on $59.48 on April 19, 2010. Instantly the price of each share moved up from $59.58 to $60.48 which was very absurd if considered as per the consequences of the disaster. But this price was only for a short span as it was brought down by $4.78 which was evaluated to be 8.3% of the base price which previously existed in just one day (Clark, 2010). The price continued to get declined due to the highlight of consequences, and as a result the price went down as low as $27.02 which had a decline of 54.6%. A massive loss of $101.59 billion was recorded by the company for market capitalization as in comparison to the same on 20th April (Fodor Stowe, 2010). Conclusion Based on the scenario, several rules and regulations is the need of the hour so that the affairs of companies can be strictly supervised. Besides, government always gives due regard to such plans and policies. Further, attention must be given towards the concern that an efficient regulation theory can act as a safeguard to the abnormal functioning of companies. Hence, public interest theory is very important in this regard, as the BP oil spill played a role in acting as an illustration for other entities so that they can give due regard towards management policies and other statutory regulations. Nevertheless, it is important for BP to pay significant attention towards governance issues, rules, and regulations so that corporate responsibility can be given due consideration. Overall, this can assist in avoiding major issues so that a strong practice can be attained, thereby setting important examples for others as well. Frankenstein Essays (381 words) - Frankenstein,

Frankenstein By Mary Shelley This is an English book report on "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley Frankenstein The story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is about a man who created something that messes with nature, and nature came back to mess with him because nature is more powerful than man. Victor Frankenstein was very interested in natural philosophy and chemistry and basically tried to play G-d by creating life. When he found the secret of activating dead flesh, he created a superhuman being composed of rotted corpses. What he did was considered unthinkable, and he was haunted by his own creation. When the monster escaped, Frankenstein knew that he had to deal with the consequences of what the monster might do. Frankenstein received a letter one day which informed him of his younger brother William's murder, and immediately suspected that he was responsible, for he was the creator of the hideous monster. A friend of the family named Justine Moritz was the "presumed" murderer, and Frankenstein was determined to prove her innocent. Circumstantial evidence, however, led the courts to believe Justine guilty, because found in her pocket was a photograph which had belonged to William. Justine had been put to death, and Frankenstein had yet to find his creation. Finally, upon their meeting, the monster confessed to his creator of what he had been through, how he was rejected by society, and finally, how he had come to kill William. When William had revealed his name to the monster, the monster immediately figured that by killing the young boy, he would have revenge on Frankenstein for giving him life. The monster did not understand the concept of right and wrong and he especially didn't mean to kill anybody. His expression of anger ended up being violent, even fatal to the victim, and it just worked out that he killed people. As the monster's story continued, he demanded of Frankenstein a female mate who he can be with until his end, and promised to live away from society. Frankenstein, meanwhile, tried to restore the monster's demented mind so he could live a normal life. Although at first Frankenstein agreed to create a friend for the monster, he changed his mind for fear that between the two of them, his life, as well as many others, would be in danger. The creature wanted revenge, and so everything important in Frankenstein's life ended up being destroyed, including his wife and best friend.

King Cotton and the Economy of the Old South

King Cotton and the Economy of the Old South King Cotton was a phrase coined in the years before the Civil War to refer to the economy of the American South. The southern economy was particularly dependent on cotton. And, as cotton was very much in demand, both in America and Europe, it created a special set of circumstances. Great profits could be made by growing cotton. But as most of the cotton was being picked by enslaved people, the cotton industry was essentially synonymous with slavery. And by extension,  the thriving textile industry, which was centered on mills in northern states as well as in England, was inextricably linked to the institution of American  slavery. When the banking system of the United States was rocked by periodic financial panics, the cotton-based economy of the South was at times immune to the problems. Following the Panic of 1857, a South Carolina senator, James Hammond, taunted politicians from the North during a debate in the U.S. Senate: You dare not make war on cotton. No power on earth dares make war upon it. Cotton is king. As the textile industry in England imported vast quantities of cotton from the American South, some political leaders in the South were hopeful that Great Britain might support the Confederacy during the Civil War. That did not happen. With cotton serving as the economic backbone of the South before the Civil War, the loss of enslaved labor that came with  emancipation  changed the situation. However, with the institution of sharecropping, which in practice was generally close to slave labor, the dependence on cotton as a primary crop continued well into the 20th century. Conditions Which Led to a Dependence on Cotton When white settlers came into the American South, they discovered very fertile farmland which turned out to be some of the best lands in the world for growing cotton. Eli Whitneys invention of the cotton gin, which automated the work of cleaning cotton fiber, made it possible to process more cotton than ever before. And, of course, what made enormous cotton crops profitable was cheap labor, in the form of enslaved Africans. The picking of cotton fibers from the plants was very difficult to work which had to be done by hand. So the harvesting of cotton required an enormous workforce. As the cotton industry grew, the number of slaves in America also increased during the early 19th century. Many of them, especially in the lower South, were engaged in cotton farming. And though the United States instituted a ban against importing slaves early in the 19th century, the growing need for slaves to farm cotton inspired a large and thriving internal slave trade. For example, slave traders in Virginia would transport slaves southward, to the slave markets in New Orleans and other Deep South cities. Dependence on Cotton Was a Mixed Blessing By the time of the Civil War, two-thirds of the cotton produced in the world came from the American South. Textile factories in Britain used enormous quantities of cotton from America. When the Civil War began, the Union Navy blockaded the ports of the South as part of General Winfield Scotts Anaconda Plan. And  cotton exports were effectively stopped. While some cotton was able to get out, carried by ships known as blockade runners, it became  impossible to maintain a steady supply of American cotton to British mills. Cotton growers in other countries, primarily Egypt and India, increased production to satisfy the British market. And with the cotton economy essentially stalled, the South was at a severe economic disadvantage during the Civil War. It has been estimated that cotton exports before the Civil War were approximately $192 million. In 1865, following the end of the war, exports amounted to less than $7 million. Cotton Production After the Civil War Though the war ended the use of enslaved labor in the cotton industry, cotton was still the preferred crop in the South. The system of sharecropping, in which farmers did not own the land but worked it for a portion of the profits, came into widespread use. And the most common crop in the sharecropping system was cotton. In the later decades of the 19th-century prices of cotton dropped, and that contributed to the severe poverty throughout much of the South. The reliance upon cotton, which had been so profitable earlier in the century, proved to be a severe problem by the 1880s and 1890s.

What role does culture play in the creation of, and attempts to Essay

What role does culture play in the creation of, and attempts to uphold, international principles relating to rights and intervention - Essay Example The word â€Å"popular† was used during the fifteenth century for jurisprudence and government making (Siapera & Hands, 2004). The word â€Å"popular† and â€Å"culture† refers to necessarily disputed ideas. There are several contending explanations of pop culture. Six explanations have been defined by John Storey, in "Cultural Theory and Popular Culture". Pop culture has been altering invariably and appears solely in a specific position and time. It figures out steady flow and swirls, and constitutes and assess the composite views that are reciprocal to each other and that determine the society (Siapera & Hands, 2004). Due to the enormous usage of TV and mass media, gender relations have become a wide area of importance to be studied. Studies on gender depiction have revealed that individuality of male and female authority has been changed due to advertisements, magazines, films, music, TV and news. Most of the studies show that the mass media has mainly affected women. In case of men media including ads, film and literature has affect on them (Hollows, 2000). Essay --

Some agile teams hold a retrospective meeting once a week along with their daily project stand-up meetings. It is called â€Å"stand-up† because the meeting is essentially conducted with all the team members standing. The basic idea behind this is to keep the meeting as short as possible typically 15 minutes or lesser. During this meeting the team members discuss about the status of the project and the issues that they are facing. The weekly retrospective would help in identifying any process changes that are required immediately. As the completion time for the sprint nears, the time taken to discuss about process improvement for the current sprint decreases as improvements for the ongoing sprint has been discussed in the everyday stand-up meeting. This results in a better software product as the team is continuously working on improving its knowledge management process. Each retrospective has both qualitative and quantitative aspects. The qualitative part discusses the various team practices and the success of each. It also comprises the specific challenges that presented themselves during the iteration. Upon identification of the issues, root cause analysis is performed and potential corrective actions are discussed and recorded. The quantitative review gathers and reviews any metrics the team is using to measure its performance. Purpose An iteration retrospective is a reflective process. The iteration retrospective enables the team to reflect on the iteration just completed and derive new ideas for process improvement. This helps instill the spirit of continuous improvement or kaizen mind in the individuals and the team, and helps assure every iteration makes some small improvements in the processes. The Scrum Master plays an import... ...s an insight into the project from the perspective of each team member and make them realize that it’s the team that can make the change. A qualitative study can be done among companies employing the agile methodology about the effectiveness of the retrospective process. Interviews can be conducted with the scrum masters and certain important people within the team to elicit what kind of improvements they have seen in their projects due to the action items suggested in retrospective meetings. A major challenge facing most agile teams is how to keep the retrospective meetings fresh. A comparative study can be done among agile teams about the various retrospective techniques that they employ and how effective and interesting these techniques. This would give an insight into a plethora of ideas on conducting a retrospective that will never become boring and redundant.

Car sales Solution Essay

My task is to imagine my friend is setting up a car locating business and wants to install a computer system. The system must have the power to store different car information and have the function to search for desired car information be stored and searched for easily .The system must also be easy to use and I have been asked to find a solution to carry this out. Two ways that I could solve the problem is by (1). Putting the information in a table using Microsoft Word, information would be easy to store, but a disadvantage would be that it is, hard and time consuming to search for a desired car. Another way would be storing the information in Microsoft Access. Microsoft Access is a program that contains databases. I think this would be the most efficient method to solve the problem, because information could be stored and searched for easily, using fields. To do this you need to use a query. Firstly you must make a query table, to it you need to add as many field options as you need such as type model, below each field type what you are looking. Save the table, open it and you should have some results. The car data type I need to put into the databases to solve the problem are Model, Make, Year, Type, Mileage, Mot, Colour, Extra features and history of owners. These will become the titles of the fields (fields are the tables in which you add all the information in the databases. I need to collect each of these items of data because this will give easy access to search for the customers desired feature of a car. For example if a customer wanted a red car I could just type red next to colour when searching. I have designed a data capture form, which shows all the details of a certain car. The car information I have entered comes from an ad in the local paper Herald and Post. The car information is taken from a Stanground Autos ad. I have decided to create a way of validating data. The data type that needed validating was Mileage and Price. For the Price field the validation rule is; >0 and 0 and

My Day Of School After Winter Break - 1673 Words

Numb Toes and Good Times There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush. The sidewalks were almost non-existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th. Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably relatively funny, but now it’s pr etty much just embarrassing. The poems on the cards were always the best, I’m sure my second grader friends couldn’t interpret the jokes my mom wrote, but their moms would. We would start planning our Christmas cards around September, it was way too early but I guess it was necessary, to create a comic masterpiece. I never understood how she made everything rhyme and flow so well, it still amazes me to this day.
